Fenway Hockey note...

by: Sopan Deb

Interesting note about the Winter Classic matchup between Boston University and Boston College at Fenway Park in January...

Per BU Today...

"Other sports have not been played at Fenway since the 1930s, when football and soccer teams used the field. Over the decades college hockey has been played outdoors, at both Spy and Hammond Ponds."

You have to wonder how much national press this game will get. More than the Beanpot? Less? Any? Will this set the stage for more baseball stadium games for college hockey teams? In terms of college sports in general, the Winter Classic is pretty groundbreaking. Have the Duke and North Carolina men's basketball teams ever faced off outside? Interesting to see how this plays out nationally.

I think that this has the potential to be huge and put college hockey on the national stage for at least a day. This is bigger than the bean pot to the national audience because of the venue

If it is anything like Michigan-Michigan State hockey game that was played outside this will be an epic battle!!!
