Casey Brown Named Defender of the Year for Third Time
Teammates Also Take Home Accolades

Senior defender Casey Brown (’10) was named the America East Defender of the Year for the third straight year as major award winners were announced on Wednesday. Brown becomes the first player to win a positional Player of the Year award three times in the history of the America East Conference.
The Terriers also picked up three other major awards on Wednesday. Senior Emily Pallotta (’10) was selected as the Midfielder of the Year, senior Janie Reilly (’10) the Goalkeeper of the Year and head coach Nancy Feldman and her staff were selected Co-Coaching Staff of the year.
Brown ('10), who missed three games in September due to an ankle injury, returned to help the Terriers close the season with ten wins in their last eleven games. She anchored a defense that has shutout eleven opponents and has allowed just 13 goals all year.
Reilly ('10) has had another impressive season in net for BU. After sharing time with sophomore Annie Tooley (’12) through the first seven games, Reilly emerged as the team’s #1 goalie. Reilly has started the last twelve games (10-2-0), allowing just six goals while picking up eight shutouts, including three straight. She leads the conference in nearly every goaltending category and has a 0.52 goals against average on the season, good enough for 13th nationally.
Pallotta (’10) has had a breakout year for the Terriers. Her seven goals lead a dynamic offense that has scored 37 goals on the season. Pallotta was named first team all conference in 2007 and second team last year. This year she ranks second in goals (7) and third in points (16). Pallotta follows in the footsteps of Marisha Schumacher-Hodge (’09) who was named Midfielder of the Year last year.
The Coaching Staff of the Year honor is the second straight for Coach Feldman and her staff. Feldman has been named Coach of the Year on seven other occasions.
Senior Farrell McClernon (’10), junior Shauna Kelleher (’11) and sophomore Jessica Luscinski (’12) were all named first team all conference.
McClernon (’10) was Rookie of the Year in 2006 and has been a second team member each of her previous three seasons. She leads the team with four game winning goals and is second in goals (6) and points (16).
Kelleher has played the unnoticed role of the defensive midfielder this year. She has scored twice, including a game winner but more importantly, her play has opened up space for Pallotta, McClernon (’10) and freshmen Megan McGoldrick (’13) to attack.
Luscinski (’12), a 2008 All-Rookie selection, avoided the sophomore slump this season. She has had a breakout season and currently leads the conference with eight assists and is three away from tying the school record. Her 18 points lead the team and put her second in conference scoring.
Senior Mara Osher (’10) was named to the second team after another successful year in the backfield for the Terriers. McGoldrick earned a spot on the All-Rookie team with an impressive 4 goals and 4 assists.
Pallotta All-District
Senior Emily Pallotta (’10) earned an off the field award this week as well. Two days after being named Midfielder of the Year, Pallotta was named a First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District I member. Pallotta was named to the University Division which covers most of the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions. With the nomination she is now eligible to be named ESPN/CoSIDA Academic All-American.
Students must be a starter or an important reserve, have a GPA above 3.20 and be at least a sophomore. Pallotta, a senior, leads the Terriers with seven goals and has a 3.75 cumulative GPA.
From someone who has been named Academic All-District three times and an Academic All-American, this is a very special recognition.
