Women's Soccer Shuts Out Albany

The Boston University women’s soccer team was put through their toughest in conference test of the season, but pulled away from the University at Albany with a 3-0 victory.


Freshman midfielder Jessica Morrow (’13) scored her first goal collegiate goal to put the Terrier’s on the board in the first half. An indirect kick from senior defensemen Casey Brown (’10) trickled into the box after hitting off the foot of freshmen Adrienne Anderson (’13), and Morrow (’13) rifled it passed Albany keeper Cate Crenson for the Terriers first score.

Morrow would later score the Terriers third goal heading a cross from senior forward Farrell McClernon (’10) in the second half. Morrow, an offender by nature, was moved to defense by BU head coach Nancy Feldman to fill a position in the backfield.

“It was kind of exciting,” Morrow said. “The first [goal] I just tried to stay composed; I just didn’t want to kick it right at the keeper. The second one I didn’t even know went in, I tried to put a head on it.”

Morrow is now the 10th player in the last five games to score a goal for the Terriers. She is also the second Terrier this season to score her first two collegiate goals in the same game. Senior forward Taleen Dimirdjian ('10) scored her first two collegiate goals against Binghamton on September 27th.

Senior Emily Pallotta (’10) scored her fifth goal on the season, when she headed a cross from Jessica Luscinski (’12) just two minutes into the second half. Pallotta is now ranked second among America East goal scorers, only behind Laura Martel of Maine who has eight goals.

The defense also shined as it earned its eighth shutout on the season. Senior keeper Janie Reilly ('10) contributed with an outstanding play in the first half. Albany forward Chelsea DeVerna broke away from the defense creating a one-on-one with Reilly (’10). Reilly charged DeVerna at the 18 yard line, slid and kicked the ball out of bounds as DeVerna was taking the shot.

The Terriers had to compete with a consistently rough Albany team. The Terriers would fight back as both teams would play a very physical match; the refs called 28 fouls during the game. Albany’s Rebecca Lee earned a yellow card in the second half, after she pushed Pallotta ('10) to the ground.

Feldman had no problem with the physical play from Albany.

“I appreciate what they were trying to do. They’re trying to fight to make the playoffs, so I had no problem with their physicality,” Feldman said. “I think we were a little stagnant the first 25 minutes which made it easier for them to be physical with us.”

Feldman said the Terriers had trouble adapting to the thick grass on Varsity Field that slowed down the ball, which contrasts with the turf on Nickerson Field, which speeds up play.

The Terriers next game will be against Stony Brook against the Seawolves on Thursday at 7 p.m.
