Know Your Enemy: The Fighting Irish
• BU and ND have met only twice before, and both results were 7-3 victories on two different Dec. 29 dates in two different holiday tournament championship games. Weird, right?
• The Fighting Irish opened their season with weekend series against Alabama-Huntsville and Providence. They dropped the openers in both series before rebounding to take the second game of each.
• Senior Kevin Deeth leads the team so far with four points, all assists. Highly touted freshman Kyle Palmieri has three points on two goals and an assist.
• The Fighting Irish defense is led by AHCA All-American junior Ian Cole.
• There are questions for the Irish in net, as three different goaltenders have started so far this season. Junior Brad Phillips suffered both losses, while freshman Mike Johnson made his collegiate debut last Saturday against Providence and came away with a shutout, stopping all 29 shots he faced. They’ve got big shoes to fill, trying to replace graduated senior Jordan Pierce, who earned a nation-best 30 wins and posted a 1.68 GAA, second best in the land.
