Men's Soccer Falls to UNH 2-1

After sophomore midfielder Michael Bustamante (’12) scored his first goal of the season on a spectacular direct kick, the Terriers went into the locker room content to run out the clock on a nice conference victory over the University of New Hampshire. But while the Terriers sat back, the Wildcats charged forward, pushing two goals past senior keeper Hrafn Davidsson (’10) in a disappointing 2-1 loss for the # 15 Boston University Terriers.

At 11:29, Bustamante (’12) ripped a set piece up over the wall, bending it just under the cross bar, and tucking it neatly inside the near post. Wildcats goalkeeper Colin O’Donnell had no chance, as the Terriers went up 1-0 and took that lead into the locker room.

In the 53rd minute, Jordan Thomas took a pass from Dylan George and beat Davidsson (’10) to equalize. About 20 minutes later, Sean Coleman put a cross in front of the net and Chris Banks headed the ball into the net and put the Wildcats ahead for good.

The Terriers attempted to equalize with long passes and runs, but only managed three shots on goal in the frame and played what amounted to a lackluster half of soccer.

Head Coach Neil Roberts was upset with the play of his perimeter players, citing their inability to penetrate the back line of the Wildcats as a major reason for the loss. "You know the urgency wasn't there, after we scored the first goal,” Roberts said. “The problem today was the flanks… their backs did a better job than our flank players.”

The Terriers will look to rebound on the road this Saturday at Hartford.
