The Reilly Factor

Senior keeper Janie Reilly (’10) has not had many leads to preserve this season. On Sunday, her teammates staked her to a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute and Reilly (’10) came up with three big plays to pick up her first full match shutout of the season.

“We needed this,” said Reilly after the game. “We have had a couple of bumps in the road and this is a great way to come back.”

With Harvard pushing for the equalizer late in the second half, Reilly punched away a header off of a corner kick. The ball was ticketed for the upper ninety but Reilly leaped and punched the ball over the crossbar. When asked afterwards, Reilly was thinking like any goalie, ‘keep the ball out of the net.’
“I was just trying to read the flight of the ball and make sure it went over,” noted Reilly.

Reilly was called upon moments before the punch-out to make a near post save on a great Crimson chance and smothered another shot with a diving stop at the far post. This was truly a coming out party for the senior and the Terriers will need her to continue the strong play in the coming weeks.

After the game she was waiting to be called on again, this time by her parents from Florida.

“They bought the package just for this month so they can watch the game (on Fox Soccer Channel). I am probably missing a call right now.”
