BU's Worst Enemy

They say the goal posts are a goalie’s best friend. However, through six games this year, the goal posts have been Boston University’s worst enemy. It was the stubborn white bars that once again stymied the Terriers on Friday night in their 1-0 overtime loss to the University of Connecticut.

Just three minutes into a scoreless second half, sophomore Jessica Luscinski (’12) unloaded a rocket towards the top of the net and past the leap Jessica Dulski. A goal for sure…then CLANG! Luscinski’s ('12) sweet strike struck the crossbar flush and bounced away. Another missed opportunity for the Terriers.

Senior Casey Brown ('10) had the same result two weeks ago against Boston College. Her header was destined for the twine, but the post had other ideas. Brown’s header was denied and the Terriers were denied their equalizer.

Sophomore midfielder Krista Minto ('12) is also not in the good graces of the pipe gods. Minto’s ('12) header in the second overtime against Loyola was denied by the crossbar as the Terriers settled for the tie. The posts were even more unfriendly that game, as they even robbed Luscinski a period earlier of a game winning tally.

Maybe the Terriers should try sacrificing a soccer ball to the post gods. Maybe then, they will get on their good graces. Maybe then, instead of frustration and anger, those unholy white bars will put a smile on the faces of the Terriers. Maybe.
