BU falls to BC in Men's Soccer Rivalry 1-0

There are tough losses, and then there are losses to Boston College. Whether it’s hockey, softball, soccer, potato-sack racing, or any other semi-athletic competitive endeavor, losing to BC stings. Friday night was no exception, as the Terriers dropped a nationally televised game to the Eagles 1-0 on an Edvin Worley goal at 56:21, early in the second half. BU had its chances throughout the contest, but was unable to beat BC keeper Justin Luthy, who preserved the clean sheet.

BC dominated the second half, controlling possession for much of the period until a late foul gave sophomore midfielder Michael Bustamante ('12) a free kick with 1:10 remaining. With the clock frozen, time seemed to pause with it. Bustamante ('12) lined up about 3 meters from the ball and inhaled, settling himself before attempting what would be his teams final chance of the contest, 'you know what you're going to do before you get there...you just block out all the distractions, the band, the fans, its just you, the ball and the keeper.' He hit the ball perfectly as it rose up and knuckled towards the net, but the screen of the wall failed to block the view of Luthy who had no trouble with the attempt.

After the game was over, Head Coach Neil Roberts sent a bold message as he left the pitch by himself, without addressing his team or reporters. Then again, there’s not much to say after you lose to Boston College.
