Better Late Than Never

The Boston University Terriers (4-4-2) pulled out a much needed 2-1 overtime win against the Dartmouth Big Green (3-4-0).
BU trailed for most of the first half after Dartmouth sophomore forward, Aly O’Dea ('12), won a ball that was left unattended in the Terriers' 18 yard box. O’Dea shot past outstretched goalie Janie Reilly (’10) who came out of net to give Dartmouth a 1-0 lead.
But in the second half, the Terriers' luck began to change. BU, which has been plagued by shots hitting the post this season, one in its favor when senior Dartmouth defender Thea Sutton ('10) headed the ball into her own net tying the score 1-1. The goal was credited to junior midfielder Shauna Kelleher (’11), her first of the year.
BU Coach Nancy Feldman said that the Terriers will take a lucky goal.
“It was kind of a crappy goal,” Feldman said. “But we’ll take what we can get, and hopefully it will open up the floodgates.”
Other than the fluke goal, the Terriers and Big Green played an evenly matched game. For most of the game, the ball was moving rapidly from one end of the field to the other and each team had a number of opportunities to score.
The Terriers were forced into their fourth overtime of the year. BU has been less than par in extra situations, going 0-1-2 with no goals. However, BU changed this in just the first two minutes of overtime.
Senior midfielder Mara Osher (’10) crossed a long ball into the six-yard box where fellow midfielder Emily Pallotta (’10) was waiting to head it in for the game-winner.
It was Pallotta’s first goal of the season and the twelfth goal of her career.
BU’s win was its first come from behind victory of the season and just its first overtime goal of the season.
The victory comes at an important time in BU’s schedule, as its next game against Binghamton begins the conference schedule.
“Getting to .500 is very important. It’s almost like a clean slate going into the conference,” Feldman said. “We generated a lot of momentum in these last two games, and that’s what you need going into the conference.”
