Men's Basketball vs. the University of Maine (2/20/08)

The Boston University Terriers dominated the University of Maine Black Bears at Case Gymnasium Wednesday night, in front of its home crown and on television, 73-54.
The Terriers started the game on an 11-0 run and from there never looked back.
The Terriers simply dominated in the first half going 16 for 31 from the field including five three-pointers. Four of those three-pointers came in the first four minutes.
Maine tried to regroup several times, as head coach Ted Woodward called two time outs less than four minutes into the game, but the Black Bears were unable to find their swagger. The Black Bears went on three separate skids where they went without a field goal for 3:44, 7:00, and 7:45 respectively. Brian Andre was the only Black Bear to make a field goal in the first 18 minutes of the game, and he was only able to net two.
The Black Bears turned the ball over 22 times, including 15 in the first half. That allowed the Terriers to get 23 points off turnovers, and 20 points off the fast break. Several of those fast breaks ended with the Terriers slamming it home.
Sophomore Corey Lowe lobbed it up several times for freshman John Holland. “I like to watch the defense [when covering Holland] and if he gets by them, then I know he can jump over anyone,” said Lowe.
Holland led the team in points with 23, going 10-17 from the field. He also played great on defense, coming up with 6 steals during the game, tying his career record.
Lowe, the Terriers’ leading scorer on the season, was able to grab 18 points of his own, including 12 points from behind the arc. Lowe now needs just three more three-pointers to surpass the single season record for the team. Perhaps his most impressive stat for the Terriers that night, though, was his career high 9 assists.
“Right now we’re playing extremely unselfish” said head coach Dennis Wolff. The Terriers as a team were feeling very generous, and recorded 20 assists, doubling the amount of assists the Black Bears had.
Maine senior Brian Andre, who just returned from injury, led his team with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Mark Socoby was able to net 11 of his own points, 9 of which came from behind arc, during his game-high 39 minutes of play.
The next WTBU broadcast of men’s basketball will be Thursday, February 28, when the Terriers host the Hartford Hawks, in a key, late-season game. Opening tip is right after 7 o’clock, with Terriers Tonight getting things started at 6:40 p.m.
