Men's Basketball vs. Stony Brook (2/9/08)

The Boston University Terriers were able to extend their winning streak to three, as they beat the Stony Brook University Seawolves Saturday at Case Gymnasium by a score of 64-60.
Things got heated with about 1:25 left in the first half, after a hard foul by Max Gotzler, which Stony Brook took exception to. This drew Demitrius Young and Matt Wolff into a shoving contest, and after being restrained by their teammates, the referees charged both men with technical fouls
These fouls came in the middle of an eleven and a half minute drought for the Seawolves, as they were unable to make a field goal in that time span. The Seawolves were up by as many as nine, with 10:04 left to play in the first half, but from there the Terriers started to grind back into it. The Terriers chipped away at the lead until they were able to finally take the lead with 1:02 left in the half.
From there, the Terriers never looked back, with contributions from Corey Lowe - who made five three pointers as part of his 21 point afternoon - and from John Holland - who got a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Scott Brittian was able to bring down 10 rebounds of his own.
The big men helped with points inside the paint for the Terriers as they got 18 points from the inside, and 16 second chance points. The Terriers got hot from behind the arc in the second half, shooting 46.7% while going 7 for 15. Boston University was also able to out rebound the Seawolves on the afternoon, grabbing 40 boards as Stony Brook could only grab 38 of their own.
Ricky Lucas of Stony Brook took almost half of his team’s shots before he fouled out late in the game. Lucas went 7 for 22 from the field getting 19 points for his team. Stony Brook’s second leading scorer was Chris Martin who got 13 points while going 4 of 11 from the field.
The Terriers looked like they could have pulled away late but the Seawolves hung around as they hit some clutch 3 pointers to inch closer. Towards the end of the game the Terriers, usually sure from the line, could not sink a shot from the charity line, going 2-for-10 in the last 65 seconds.
Nonetheless, the Terriers edged out the victory, and now find themselves winners of three in a row for the first time all season. The Terriers next game will be on Tuesday at 7:00 at Case Gymnasium against Binghamton. WTBU will have the call of the game, with the pre-game show starting at 6:40 pm.
